In Finland 112 Day is held every year on 11 February, and forms part of the common European 112 Day campaign. 112 Day is the joint theme day of the various safety actors, that emphasises the importance of safety in people’s everyday lives.
A challenge is issued to all schools and day care centres to take part,, by asking the question, 'Are you an Everyday Hero?'
112 Day events relating to a range of safety themes are organised in a number of districts and schools. The day's goal is to draw people's attention to the prevention of injury and accidents. Many accidents, fires and crimes can be avoided through methodical action. Each of us can make a major contribution towards our own safety, and the safety of those close to us.
The day also serves as a reminder of the 112 emergency number and of when you should call the number and what you should do if, in spite of every precaution, an emergency occurs. The 112 emergency number now works in all EU countries. Get to know the EU's Kids' corner English-language quiz and teacher's guide.

On 112 Day, schools and day care centres can hold their own 112 Day events during the various lessons, and perhaps refer to the theme during morning assembly. The alternatives are endless. Each school can plan its own safety event to take place every year on 112 Day, and establish a worthwhile tradition.
All the material on this website is available for schools and day care centres to use or copy, both for the 112 Day events and all year round for other counselling on safety-related issues. The material is also available in Swedish and English, and can be exploited, for example, in language teaching.
