112 Day: Everyday Heroes: looking after their own and others’ safety

Focusing on Everyday Heroes, 112 Day is celebrated every year on 11 February. Over the years, celebration of the Everyday Hero has become the most notable and visible safety partnership campaign in Finland. This year’s national Everyday Hero is Tiina Koivula from Teuva.

Tiina Koivula, Everyday Hero: The wellbeing of the elderly is everything

“I’m at a loss for words,” said Tiina Koivula when she was informed of her nomination as Everyday Hero of the Year 2013. She is matron and caretaker of the row houses that belong to Teuvan vanhustenkotiyhdistys, the Teuva old people’s homes association; she is responsible for the day-to-day wellbeing and safety of about 50 elderly residents.
